ACCRA, Ghana — Ghanaians can now digitally verify marriage and divorce records through a new platform designed to help people confirm the marital status of prospective partners, marriage officials and licensed venues before entering into unions.

Known as Marrify, the digital marriage and divorce registry was launched in Accra on August 28 by Marry Right Ghana Limited in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The platform provides access to records covering ordinance, customary and Islamic marriages, allowing users to conduct searches using information such as names, spouses’ names, towns, churches, denominations, certificate numbers and Gazette numbers.

Marrify also provides a register of marriage officers authorised to solemnise civil or ordinance marriages, as well as information on licensed marriage venues and licensed Imams.

Its database draws information from several official sources, including the Registrar-General’s Department, the courts, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey urged prospective couples to use the platform to verify important details before proceeding with marriage.

She said the initiative would promote greater integrity and accountability by allowing people to independently confirm information rather than relying solely on what prospective partners tell them.

The minister also urged Marry Right Ghana to work closely with government institutions, religious organisations, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the database remains accurate and regularly updated.

Marrify includes divorce records based on court rulings and judgments, with some divorce entries linked to the marriages to which they relate.

The initiative is expected to strengthen access to marriage-related information while helping prospective couples carry out due diligence before making legally and financially significant commitments.
