President Mnangagwa Hands Over SADC Chairmanship to SA leader Ramaphosa

DURBAN, South Africa — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has handed over the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the 46th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in Durban.

The handover took place at the Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, marking the end of Zimbabwe’s tenure at the helm of the regional bloc.

Addressing the summit, President Mnangagwa called on SADC member states to continue investing in education systems capable of producing skills and solutions to address the region’s development challenges.

He also urged countries to accelerate investment in regional infrastructure, highlighting the Kazungula Bridge in Zambia as an example of infrastructure that can strengthen regional integration and facilitate trade and economic development.

On peace and security, President Mnangagwa expressed concern over ongoing conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar, reaffirming SADC’s commitment to promoting peace and stability across the region.
